2. The short version
- We collect only the data that the game needs to work and to stay safe.
- We do not show adverts.
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not follow you across other apps or web sites.
- You can delete your account and your data from inside the game.
3. The data that we collect
| Data | Why we collect it |
|---|---|
| Your account: an account id, and the email address from your Google or Apple sign-in | To sign you in and to keep your game |
| Your display name | To show you to other players |
| Your state of origin, which you select | To show it under your name. It is part of the game. |
| Your age band (16 to 17, or 18 and over) | To keep people under 16 out of the game. We check your date of birth on your phone. We do not keep the full date. |
| Your avatar, your status line | To show you to other players |
| Your game progress: money in the game, your hustle, your city, your trips | To run the game |
| Your chat messages | To deliver them to the players near you |
| Reports that you send, and reports about you, with the text of the message | To keep the game safe |
| Your block list and your mute list | To hide the players that you selected |
| A device report: the phone model, the system version, and the result of the graphics check | To find the phones that cannot run the game. We do not attach it to your account. |
| Technical data that each internet service receives, such as your IP address | To connect you to the game and to stop abuse. We do not use it to find where you are. |
We do not collect your location, your contacts, your photos, your microphone, or your payment details.
The game has no purchases at this date.
4. What other players see
Other players see your display name, your state of origin, your avatar, your status line, the city that you are in, and the messages that you send near them.
Do not put private information in your name, your status line, or your messages.
5. Who processes the data for us
These companies process data for us and on our instructions. They do not use it for their own purposes.
| Company | Task |
|---|---|
| Cloudflare, Inc. | Runs the game servers and the network |
| Neon, Inc. | Keeps the accounts and the shared game data |
| Apple Inc. and Google LLC | Sign you in, if you use their sign-in |
The servers can be outside Nigeria and outside your country. At this date they are in Europe and in the United States.
We give data to an authority only when the law requires it.
6. Safety and moderation
A filter checks each message, each display name, and each status line. It hides bad language.
You can block, mute, or report a player. When you report a player, our moderators see the report and the message.
We can remove content, and we can suspend or ban an account that breaks the rules in our Terms.
7. How long we keep the data
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Chat messages | The game keeps the last 50 lines of each channel. Older lines are deleted. |
| Reports and ban records | 12 months after the report is closed, so that a banned player cannot come back at once |
| Your account, your profile, and your game progress | Until you delete your account |
| The device report | 12 months |
8. Your choices
- Delete your account. In the game: Settings > Account > Delete account. This deletes your account, your profile, your game progress, and your lists. You can also ask on this web page: https://how-far.pages.dev/delete-account.
- See or correct your data. Write to us at the address in section 1.
- Object or complain. Write to us first. You can also complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, or to the data protection authority of your country.
We answer within 30 days.
We keep a ban record after a deletion for the time in section 7. This stops a banned player from making a new account at once.
9. Age
How Far is for people aged 16 and over. The game asks for your date of birth before you make an account.
If we learn that a player is under 16, we delete the account.
If you are 16 or 17, you must have the permission of a parent or guardian to play. Ask them to read this policy with you.
10. Security
The game sends data over an encrypted connection (HTTPS and WSS).
No system is fully safe. Tell us at once if you think that someone used your account.
11. Changes
We can change this policy. We put the new date at the top. If the change is important, the game tells you before the change starts.
